Toy Story Land opened on 26 April 2018, the park’s first expansion after its June 2016 debut, and it is Shanghai Disneyland’s eighth themed land. The conceit is the same one Pixar’s films play with: everything here is built at the scale of a toy seen from a kid’s-eye view, so the paths, planters and ride vehicles all tower over you the way Andy’s backyard would if you had just been shrunk down with the rest of the toy box.
It is a compact land built around three rides rather than a sprawling district, so it slots neatly into a day that is already centered on Fantasyland, which it sits alongside. Treat it as a dedicated stop rather than something you stumble into on the way to somewhere else.
What can you ride in Toy Story Land?
Slinky Dog Spin is the gentlest of the three: a spinning ride built around Slinky’s coiled body, with no minimum height, which makes it one of the few rides in this part of the park that works for nearly everyone in a group, including younger kids.
Rex’s Racer is the land’s thrill ride — a shuttle coaster that launches forward, climbs, then reverses back through the course. It requires a minimum height of 120 cm, one of the taller thresholds in the park, so measure kids before you queue rather than after a long wait.
Woody’s Roundup is the third ride: a spinning “Old West cart” attraction themed to a hoedown with Woody and Jessie, with a height requirement of 81 cm or taller.
Between the three, a family with a wide age range will likely split for Rex’s Racer, while Slinky Dog Spin and Woody’s Roundup stay open to nearly everyone and make an easy spot to regroup afterward.
How does Toy Story Land fit into your day?
Because it sits just off Fantasyland rather than on the main clockwise loop through Treasure Cove and Adventure Isle, it is easiest to fold in right after (or before) a Fantasyland stretch rather than as a separate crossing of the park. If Rex’s Racer is a priority, mornings tend to be calmer here than at the park’s marquee coasters, since most first-time visitors head straight for TRON Lightcycle Power Run or Zootopia: Hot Pursuit at rope drop instead.
